No. 3 Stanford Beats No. 11 San Diego State 6-2, Stomps Pomona-Pitzer 19-1

On Sunday in San Diego, the No. 3 Cardinal defeated the No. 11 Aztecs 6-2, by coming out strong 3-0 in the first quarter. Sophomore Katie Hansen and senior Hannah Luber each scored two goals for the Cardinal.

Hansen got the Cardinal off to a quick start by capitalizing on a key 6-on-5 opportunity, scoring a goal with just 4:20 left in the first quarter. She scored her second goal just over a minute later, bringing Stanford to a 2-0 lead.

At :52 left in the first quarter, junior Scotti Shafer sunk an outside shot into the net, capturing a 3-0 lead. The Cardinal kept the Aztecs scoreless until :18 in the first quarter, when they scored to bring the game to a margin of just two points.

The second quarter saw just one goal for Stanford from senior Hannah Luber, and a scoreless quarter for the Aztecs thanks to awesome defense from the Cardinal.

Hannah Luber netted her second goal of the game in the third quarter with 1:25 left on the gameclock to up the score to 5-1. Sophomore Christina Hewko captured a goal for Stanford with :22 on the clock in the third quarter, marking yet another scoreless quarter for San Diego State.

In the fourth quarter the Cardinal went scoreless, but the Aztecs brought in one more goal to bring the final score to 6-2.
