Cardinal Challenge Bears Early But Come Up Short

April 30, 2005

The Stanford Varsity Women's Eights came ready to race today in theBig Row. Despite early season losses to the Bears at the San DiegoCrew Classic the Cardinal was primed for the challenge. Both eightsseemed up to the task as they raced stroke for stroke through thefirst half of the race. The Cardinal did not keep the pace howeverand fell short in the second half of the race.

Head Coach Aimee Baker says of the racing, "I am very pleased withthe first half performance by both the first and second varsityboats. They came out to compete against a very strong Cal programand did just that for the first half of the race. I do not think thatCal has been tested too many times this season so it felt good tochallenge them in the first half. Cal has a very fast group andwill be the favorite for the Pac-10's in two weeks. Our groupcontinues to improve each race and will look forward to do the sameat Pac-10's."
