Berkeley, Calif. - The finale of a key three-game Pac-10 series scheduled for Sunday between No. 24 Stanford (27-16, 8-6 Pac-10) and California (30-21, 10-10 Pac-10) has been postponed due to wet weather conditions. The rubber game of the series has been rescheduled for Monday, May 9 (2:30 pm, PT) at Evans Diamond in Berkeley.
Stanford won Friday's series-opener by a score of 7-5, jumping out to an early 7-0 advantage and withstanding five unearned California runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Cardinal suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in 11 innings on Saturday as the Golden Bears evened the series when pinch-hitter Travis Howell squeezed home Chris Errecart for the game-winning run with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Sunday's postponement marks the eighth time Stanford has had a contest moved back due to weather conditions in a soggy 2005 campaign. Stanford's scheduled season-opener versus Fresno State on January 28, as well as games against Kansas (February 11), California (February 25), Pacific (March 19), San Jose State (March 22), Oregon State (April 8) and Washington (April 23) were also postponed due to rain or wet weather conditions. All of the contests other than the San Jose State game have been made up. A new date for the San Jose State matchup has not been announced.
