Strong First Half Propels No. 16 Stanford Over Oregon State, 80-60

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Jillian Harmon scored 22 points and No. 16 Stanford got off to a fast start in an 80-60 win over Oregon State on Thursday night.

Harmon made nine of 10 shots from the field and Candace Wiggins scored 18 points for the Cardinal (9-4, 4-1 Pacific 10), who opened the game with a 13-0 run and led 20-4 in the first half.

Anita Rivera scored 15 points for the Beavers, who have lost 16 straight conference games. Kim Butler added 13 points.

Brooke Smith added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Stanford, which outrebounded Oregon State 21-2 in the first 14 minutes.

Harmon, a freshman who was a two-time state player of the year at Lakeridge High in Lake Oswego, Ore., scored 16 points in the first half.

Butler, Oregon State's leading scorer at 17.9 points per game, didn't score until 30 minutes in and senior Mandy Close, averaging 15 points a game, was 2-of-11 from the field and finished with four points and seven turnovers.

The Cardinal took 48-27 lead into halftime, eventually leading by 39 points at one point in the second half, but the Beavers (6-5, 0-3) ended the game on a 16-2 run.

The Beavers have lost 11 straight to Stanford, which already has more losses this season than all of last year.

Tiffany Ducker had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Beavers.
