Indian Wells, Calif. - Stanford sophomore Whitney Deason won another pair of matches on Saturday to advance to the singles finals at the Wimbledon of College Tennis at the prestigious Indian Wells Tennis Garden, where seven of the top men's and Women's college tennis teams in the nation are competing in the 27th annual Nationwide Beverage National Collegiate Tennis Classic, Presented by Neutrogena Corporation.
Deason knocked off UCLA's Ana Victoria Lind, 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before posting a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over third-seeded Cristelle Grier of Northwestern in the semis. She will face USC's Diane Mattias in the championship finals on Sunday.
Cardinal freshman Jessica Nguyen advanced to the quarterfinals, before Grier knocked her out of the tournament in a three-set match. Deason and Nguyen were ousted from the doubles draw by Grier and Alexis Prousis in the quarterfinals, 8-6.
