Seattle, Wa - The Stanford men's and women's distance medley relay teams raced to impressive victories in the 2006 indoor track & field season opener on Friday night at the Washington Indoor Invitational.
The evening of success started when the women's distance medley relay team (1,200, 400, 800, 1,600 meters) of Katy Trotter, Janice Davis, Ashley Freeman and Arianna Lambie raced to an NCAA qualifying time of 11:06.68. That time was third-best in school history. Stanford fielded a "B" team in the same event and the team of Amanda Trotter, Chauntae Bayne, Laura Mottaz and Lauren Centrowitz raced to an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:25.48.
Then the Cardinal men's distance medley relay team of Joaquin Chapa, Michael Garcia, Wopamo Osaisai and Russell Brown took to the track and raced to victory in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:41.08.
An extensive list of running and field events will take place on Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Track on the campus of the University of Washington.

Seven current and former Stanford athletes plus the women's distance medley relay team hold records at the facility which opened four years ago ... The list of current Stanford athletes includes Janice Davis in the 60 meters (7.31, school record, 2/25/05), Ashley Purnell in the 400 meters (53.57, school record, 3/5/05) and Erica McLain in the triple jump (45-7 1/4, school record, 2/26/05).
