No. 11 Stanford Uses Late Run To Down No. 23 USC

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Rosalyn Gold-Onwude scored nine of her career-high 14 points in the final seven minutes to help No. 11 Stanford beat 23rd-ranked Southerm California 78-69 on Sunday.

Candice Wiggins, the nation's fourth-leading scorer, added 18 points for the Cardinal (14-5, 9-2 Pac-10) and became the 26th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

Stanford's Jillian Harmon came off the bench to get 15 points and eight rebounds, and Brooke Smith had 14 points.

Eshaya Murphy scored 16 points for the Trojans (13-7, 7-4 Pacific-10), who have lost two consecutive games after winning five in a row. Camille LeNoir added 13 points.

USC, which led by as many as nine points, held a 62-55 lead with 6:54 to play before Stanford used a 14-2 surge to move ahead 69-64 with 2:45 remaining. Gold-Onwude and Smith scored six points apiece.

Murphy made one of two free throws with 1:44 left to narrow the Trojans' deficit to 71-67. But the Cardinal made seven of eight free throws in the final 1:09 to seal the victory.

USC failed to score a basket in the final 2:30.
