In a busy weekend, Stanford Synchronized Swimming added to their winning streak with consecutive dual-meet victories over Florida State University and the University of Florida.
The Cardinal opened the weekend with an elegant swim against the Seminole club team on Friday night. Stanford's routine of Courtenay Stewart, Elizabeth-Anne Markman, and Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos claimed gold in trio. The Cardinal pair of Stewart and Sara Lowe placed first in the duet competition with a score of 89.75, while Stanford's Melissa Knight and Erin Bell finished a close second at 87.25. In the solo competition, Lowe claimed gold, and Bongiovanni-Duclos took second.
In the team event, Stanford's "A" squad of Bell, Bongiovanni-Duclos, Carlig, Knight, Markman, Lowe, Stewart, and Hilary Homenko placed first with a score of 91.0. Stanford earned a total of 88 points over the course of the meet to Florida State's 22 points.
Stanford followed their victory in Tallahassee with a bus ride to Gainesville, where they faced off against the Gators. Swimming at UF's beautiful outdoor complex, the Cardinal extended their winning streak and captured four golds.
The Cardinal trio of Stewart, Markman, and Bongionvanni-Duclos claimed their fourth gold of the year with a score of 91.6. In the duet competition, Lowe and Stewart out performed the competition to win the gold with a score of 92.5. The second duet of Knight and Bell also swam strongly and earned second with a score of 89.5.
The Cardinal collected the top two spots in the solo event with captain Sara Lowe winning her second solo gold of the weekend; Bongiovanni-Duclos claimed second. Stanford Synchro finished their weekend in Florida with a strong swim in the team event, earning the gold medal and a final score of 92.0. Stanford earned a total of 100 points to University of Florida's 88 points.
