Tempe, Az - The 12th-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team recorded its best effort of the season, and the result was a 196.325 - 195.725 victory over tenth-ranked Arizona State in a Pac-10 dual meet on Friday night at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Buoyed by a 1-2-3 finish on Bars by Liz Tricase (9.900), Tabitha Yim (9.875) and Glyn Sweets (9.875), the Cardinal point total (196.325) surpassed the previous season best of 194.950 in the season opener at the Cancun Classic on Jan 6.
Arizona State had been ranked #1 nationally on Beam, but that didn't deter Stanford from posting a 48.800 - 48.550 victory. The Cardinal's upset victory on Beam was buoyed by 3-4-5 finishes by Tabitha Yim (9.850), Heather Purnell (9.825) and Natalie Foley (9.825).
The Cardinal also scored a team victory on Bars (49.275 - 49.000). The victory upped Stanford's record to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-10. Stanford returns home on February 17 against nationally-ranked Arizona at Burnham Pavilion.
