Stanford, Calif - The second-ranked Cardinal led from start to finish in Sunday's match-up against the seventh-ranked Long Beach State 49ers at the Avery Aquatic Center.

Stanford came out strong, scoring three goals in the first quarter and another five in the second to take a commanding 8-1 lead going into the break. Freshman Lauren Silver (Long Beach, CA) continued her strong play, scoring three goals in the contest to bring her team-leading total to 25.

With the Cardinal (11-2, 5-0 MPSF) leading 11-1 early in the third quarter, coach John Tanner sent in the substitutes for the remainder of the game. In addition to Silver, Senior Nancy El-Sakkary (Dollar des Ormeaux, Quebec) also netted three goals in the contest. The Cardinal had two goals apiece from Junior Katie Hansen (Coronado, CA) and Freshman Jessica Steffens (Danville, CA).

Goalie Meridith McColl (Mission Viejo, CA) had another strong performance, finishing the contest with eleven saves. The Cardinal scored their 14 goals on only 24 shots against Long Beach State (9-6, 1-2 MPSF), and they built off their strong performance against UC Irvine on Saturday.

Sunday's victory gets the Cardinal off on the right foot leading up to their showdown on Thursday March 9th against the top-ranked USC Women of Troy in Los Angeles.
