Chauntae Bayne-Hackett Sets Two School Records At NCAA Indoor Championship

Fayetteville, Ark - Stanford sophomore Chauntae Bayne-Hackett broke two school records, and the Cardinal women's distance medley relay team earned All-American honors to highlight first day activity on Friday night at the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Tyson Indoor Track Complex at the University of Arkansas.

The DMR team of Amanda Trotter, Keisha Gaines, Ashley Freeman and Arianna Lambie finished the distance in a time of 11:05.03. That time was second-best in school history. North Carolina won the race in 11:01.97.

The second place finish was worth eight points and gave the Cardinal a team total of 18 which is tied for fourth place after the first day with Georgia. Texas, the pre-meet favorite, is first with 25 points followed by North Carolina (20) and USC (19). Stanford is picked to finish second at the NCAA's.

Two other final events for women were contested on Friday night. Chauntae Bayne-Hackett easily broke her school record in the 200 meters with a time of 22.77 to finish third and earn All-American honors. Bayne-Hackett shattered her old school record set earlier this year with a time of 23.41 at the Arkansas Tyson Invitational. Shalonda Solomon of South Carolina won in a time of 22.57. In the long jump, sophomore Erica McLain earned All-American honors when she finished sixth with a season-best mark of 20-10 3/4 (6.37m, #2 all-time at Stanford).

Janice Davis ran a career-best 23.30 (#2 all-time at Stanford) in the finals of the 200 meters ... Her previous best was 23.46 set earlier this year in winning the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) title ... Chauntae Bayne-Hackett, who during Friday ran a school record 22.77 in the 200 meters, also broke the school record in the 60 meters prelims with a time of 7.21 ... That broke her old career-best of 7.31 and beat the old school record of 7.30 set by Janice Davis earlier this season ... Bayne-Hackett advanced to Saturday's final in the 60 meters.
