Corvallis, Or - For the second time in the last three seasons, the Stanford women's gymnastics team is the Pacific-10 champion.
Fueled by first place efforts of Tabitha Yim in the All-Around and Beam, and Liz Tricase on Bars, the Cardinal tallied a season-high 197.100 points to defeat runnerup UCLA (196.800 points) at the Pacific-10 Championship at Oregon State.
Yim captured the Pac-10 title in the All-Around with a career-best toal of 39.650. Yim also won first place honors on Beam with a career-best 9.975. Yim also finished second on Floor Exercise with a career-best total of 9.925. Yim became the second Stanford athlete in school history to win the Pac-10 in the All-Around. In 2004, Natalie Foley won the title.
Tricase, the national leader on Bars, won the Pac-10 title with a score of 9.925. Tricase also helped Stanford win the team title with second place effort on Vault (9.900) and third place on Floor Exercise (9.900).
UCLA won three (Vault, Bars, Beam) of the four events, but Stanford stayed close by finishing second in those events. The tide turned in favor of Stanford when the Cardinal scored a decisive point total of 49.275 on Floor Exercise while the Bruins faltered at 48.825. Yim and Tricase led the way with 2-3 finishes.
Stanford, ranked tenth in the nation, will host the NCAA West Regional on April 8 (6 p.m.) at Maples Pavilion.
