Tabitha Yim Wins Three All-American Honors At NCAA Championship

Corvallis, Or - Stanford sophomore Tabitha Yim gained three All-America honors and advanced to the finals on Bars and Floor Exercise during Thursday night's performance at the 2006 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships at Oregon State.

Yim finished in a three-way tie for second place to gain first team All-American honors on Bars with a score 9.900. Ashley Kelley of Arizona State and Courtney Kupets of Georgia also tallied the same scores. Katie Heenan of Georgia had the best score of the night at 9.925. Yim's effort on Bars earned her a trip to Saturday's final.

Yim then advanced to Saturday's finals on Floor Exercise with a second place finish in Session II and fourth place overall with a score of 9.900. Her effort earned her first team All-American distinction for a second straight season. Emily Parsons of Nebraska had the best score of the night at 9.950 followed by Ashley Miles of Alabama and Kelsey Ericksen of Georgia at 9.925.

The finals of the All-Around were held on Thursday night and Yim finished fourth in Session II and eighth overall in the competition with a score of 39.375 for her third All-American effort at this year's NCAA's. Courtney Kupets of Georgia won with a score of 39.575. Yim tallied scores of 9.800 on Vault, 9.900 on Bars, 9.775 on Beam, and 9.900 on Floor Exercise.

In just two seasons at Stanford, Yim has earned seven All-American honors.

Natalie Foley gained second team All-American honors with a fifth place finish on Bars (9.875) and Vault (9.850). Foley, a senior, finished 39th in the All-Around (38.675). Foley generated scores of 9.850 on Vault, 9.875 on Bars, 9.150 on Beam, and 9.800 on Floor Exercise.

Foley ended her Stanford career with ten All-American honors in four seasons.

Team competition will continue on Friday night while the individual events will be contested on Saturday night. The 12 teams that competed in Thursday night's preliminary were whittled down to the Super Six (Georgia, Iowa State, Florida, Nebraska, Alabama and Utah). Georgia, the defending NCAA champion, had the best score of the evening with a 197.275.
