Los Angeles, Ca - The first day (Thursday) at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational at UCLA's Drake Stadium saw only two events contested, the women's hammer and the men's hammer.
Sarah Hopping, a senior from Longmont, Colorado, finished fourth among 22 competitors with a throw of 189-6 (57.77m). Katie Elsbury placed seventh (180-2, 54.93m).
In the men's hammer, Kyle Davis-Hammerquist placed 17th.
The invitational kicks into high gear on Friday.
