Sender Crowned NCAA Vault Champion, Carney Shares High Bar Title

Norman, Okla. - Sophomore David Sender was crowned the national champion on the vault after posting a score of 9.562 on day three of the NCAA Championships. Junior Dylan Carney shared the high bar title with Illinois' Justin Spring. The Cardinal tallied five top-three finishes in the NCAA Individual Event Finals.

Sophomore Sho Nakamori finished second on the floor exercise with a score of 9.500, behind Oklahoma's Jonathan Horton (9.575). On the high bar, Carney tallied a season-best score of 9.700 to earn a share of the national title along with Spring. Senior Nate Downs was seventh on the high bar with a score of 9.350.

Sender posted a score of 9.562 to claim the individual championship on the vault, beating out Ohio State's Jimmy Wickham (9.487). Carney was sixth on the vault with a score of 9.375.

The Cardinal landed four gymnasts in the top ten finishers on the still rings, with junior Alex Schorsch finishing second with 9.575 and junior Peter Derman in third place with 9.512. Oklahoma's Jonathan Horton won the event with a score of 9.637. Sender was also fifth for the Cardinal on the rings with a score of 9.412. Freshman Bryant Hadden claimed the tenth place with a score of 8.687.

In his third individual event, Sender placed sixth on the parallel bars with a score of 8.875. Illinois' Justin Spring won the event with an impressive 9.825, followed by teammates Adam Pummer (9.450) and Wesley Haagensen (9.162).

The Cardinal (26-6) concluded team competition last night with a third place finish at the NCAA Team Final (218.375). Oklahoma claimed the national championship with a team total of 221.400.
