Junior goalkeeper, Meridith McColl, was nominated as a finalist for the 7th Annual Peter J. Cutino Award. This award honors the outstanding female water polo player for 2006.
McColl, recently named to the All-MPSF First-Team, has 207 saves this season for the Cardinal, and has allowed only 109 goals in her 26 games as goalie. Last season, McColl totaled 190 saves in 29 games, and her freshman year she started at goalie with 137 total saves. The other two nominees for the award are Brittany Hayes and Lauren Wenger, both from USC. The award dinner will be June 3rd.
The last Peter J. Cutino award winners for Stanford were Jacki Frank in 2003 and Brenda Villa in 2002. Heather Crary was a finalist in 1999, Brenda Villa was a finalist in 2003, and Wendy Watkins was a finalist in 2004. On the men's side, Thomas Hopkins was a finalist this year for the award, and Tony Azevedo was the award winner for each of his four years playing collegiate water polo ('02-'05).
