Katy Trotter Earns All-American Honors at NCAA Track & Field Championship

Sacramento, Ca - Katy Trotter, a junior from Little Silver, NJ, earned her eighth All-American honor on Friday night with an eighth place finish in the 5000 meters at the 2006 NCAA Track & Field Championship at Sacramento State.

Trotter toured the distance in 16:15.51. This was Trotter's first outdoor All-American honor. Her other seven awards have been in cross country and indoor track.

Overall, it was pretty light day for activity for Stanford athletes. Erica McLain easily qualified for Saturday's final (12:30 p.m. pt) in the triple jump. McLain, seeded third in the meet, jumped 43-2 1/4 (13.16m) on her second effort of the day. That was the fourth-best mark in the prelim competition which was led by meet favorite Tabia Charles of Miami (Fla) at 43-6 1/2 (13.27m).

The final day of competition on Saturday will feature Sarah Hopping in the hammer (10 a.m. pt), Ashley Freeman in the 800 meters (12:05 p.m. pt), Erica McLain in the triple jump (12:30 p.m. pt), Janice Davis in the 100 meters (12:35 p.m. pt), Russell Brown and Rolf Steier in the 1500 meters (2:04 p.m. pt) and Jonathan Pierce in the 3000 meter steeplechase (2:20 p.m. pt).

Television Time
CBS will air two and one-half hours of live coverage of the NCAA Track & Field Championships on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Pacific time) ... This is the first time since 1982 that the NCAA Track & Field Championships have been televised live on network television.
