Sept. 1, 2006
Stanford, Ca - The Wake Forest field hockey team, winners of three of the past four NCAA championships, clearly demonstrated why they are again one of the top teams in the nation with a 6-0 non-league victory over Stanford on Friday afternoon at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf.
The Demon Deacons had not allowed a goal or a penalty corner in the previous two games, and their defense was again strong against the Cardinal. Stanford did manage two corner kicks and three shots on goal against Wake Forest goalkeeper Kristina Gagliardi.
Wake Forest scored three times in each half to earn its third victory of the season. Stanford fell to 1-3.
Stanford goalkeeper Madison Bell was peppered with Wake Forest shots all afternoon. Bell was credited with a career-high 16 saves which beat her previous best of 11 against Maryland earlier this year.
The Cardinal returns to action on Sunday at 11 a.m. to host Columbia University.
Admission is free.
