Northwestern Scores 3-2 Overtime Victory over Stanford

Sept. 15, 2006

Box Score

Evanston, Il - Another tough loss for the Stanford field hockey team.

This time, Northwestern scored on a goal just over a minute into overtime to post a 3-2 victory over the Cardinal in a non-league game on Friday afternoon.

Stanford got on the scoreboard first, finding the back of the cage 13 minutes into the game on an unassisted goal by Liz Robinson, her third of the season. Northwestern responded with a goal a few minutes later when Katie Charles followed up a blocked shot by Meg Small.

After a 1-1 halftime deadlock, the Cardinal once again found the scoring column first on Rachel Mozenter's first goal of the season at 37:53. But the Wildcats once again found an answer when Christina Foley tied the game at 43:37.

Intense play by both sides could not produce the deciding goal in regulation. It took only 1:25 into the extra session for a winner to be decided. Elizabeth Dobbs found herself in a one-on-one situation inside the circle and fired a shot past Cardinal goalie Madison Bell.

The loss dropped Stanford's record to 2-6. Northwestern is 4-4.

Stanford ends its three-game road trip on Sunday against Yale in Evanston.
