Oct. 7, 2006

Box Score

Stanford, Ca - The Stanford field hockey team displayed a strong combination of an excellent offense and a stingy defense to record a 4-1 victory over Davidson College on Saturday afternoon in a NorPac game on the Varsity Field Hockey Turf.

Stanford's offense peppered the Davidson net with 23 shots, its second-highest shot total of the year. Senior forward Liz Robinson led the Cardinal attack with two goals. Both scores came in the second half (50:55, 56:15) to insure the Cardinal victory. For Robinson, it was her fourth and fifth goals of the season.

Stanford struck paydirt first when Caroline Hussey scored her first goal of the season at 10:08, thanks to an assist from Bailey Richardson. Davidson's Britti Himelfarb tied the game a minute later, but from then on, Stanford's defense shutdown the Wildcat scoring for the day while the Cardinal scored three straight goals.

Junior goalkeeper Madison Bell collected 13 saves. It was the third time this year that Bell had recorded ten or more saves in a game.

Stanford increased its record to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in the NorPac. Davidson is 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
