ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Cori Chambers scored 21 points and Ashley Houts made four free throws in the final 30 seconds as No. 8 Georgia held off No. 11 Stanford 74-69 on Sunday.
Megan Darrah scored 15 points for No. 8 Georgia, which led by 14 points midway through the second half before Stanford (2-3) cut the lead to 68-67.
Stanford's Jillian Harmon and J.J. Hones each missed free throws that could have tied the game before Houts, a freshman, sank two free throws with 30 seconds left for a 70-67 lead.
Harmon scored with 18 seconds left to again cut the lead to one. Houts added two free throws with 17 seconds left.
Candice Wiggins, who led Stanford with 24 points, missed a 3-pointer with about 5 seconds left, and Janese Hardrick padded the lead with two free throws. Hardrick scored 14 points.
Brooke Smith added 19 points and Jayne Appel had 16 for the Cardinal.
Georgia converted on 21-28 attempts from the free throw line, compared to Stanford's mark of 3-12. Both teams pulled down 42 rebounds, Stanford held a 17-13 edge in assists while Georgia owned a 38-36 halftime lead.
Stanford shot 41.1-percent while Georgia made 45.3-percent from the field.
NOTES: Stanford has started the season 2-3 for the first time since 1999-2000. That's also the last time the Cardinal were under the .500 mark ... The Cardinal has lost three games during the month of November for the first time since an 0-3 start to the 1998-99 campaign ...
