Stanford, Calif - The third-ranked Cardinal atoned for a tough loss Saturday against second-ranked USC with a dominating 13-5 victory against the eleventh-ranked San Jose State Spartans Sunday morning at the Avery Aquatic Center.
The Cardinal had a balanced scoring attack which saw nine different players score, highlighted by three goals from Freshman Lauren Silver (Long Beach, CA). Additionally Junior Katie Hansen capitalized on a four-meter penalty shot in the first period, one that saw the Cardinal net four goals.
The Cardinal (3-1) dominated the entire game, tallying four goals in each of the first three periods. They also attempted thirty-one shots, compared to only thirteen by the Spartans. Entering the fourth period the Spartans (3-2) trailed twelve to four, and faced the tough task of getting by Goalie Meridith McColl.
Sunday afternoon the Cardinal will play in the third-place game at 3:20pm at the Avery Aquatic Center.
