No 3 Stanford Beats Pacific In Season Opener

Stanford, Ca - Jacquelyn Gauthier, a sophomore from Irvine, Ca., scored a team-high and career-high four goals to lead the third-ranked Stanford women's water polo team to a 17-2 victory over Pacific in the 2006 season opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center.

Ten different Cardinal players scored at least one goal, including three by Lauren Silver, a freshman from Long Beach, Ca.

Stanford scored the game's first 14 goals until Pacific got on the scoreboard with a tally at 6:10 in the fourth period. Junior goalkeeper Meredith McColl, from Mission Viejo, Ca., started for Stanford and held the Tigers scoreless during the first three periods before backup Alison Gregorka (Carlsbad, Ca) took over the goalkeeping duties in the final frame. Gregorka also scored a goal for the Cardinal in the second period.
