Los Angeles, Ca - Team victories in all four gymnastics events (Bars, Beam, Floor Exercise, Vault) and top honors by Liz Tricase (Bars, Vault), Tabitha Yim (Beam, Vault), and Carly Janiga (Floor Exercise) powered the eighth-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team to an impressive 196.975 - 195.525 victory over fifth-ranked UCLA on Monday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.
The Cardinal looked strong with a 49.200 - 49.125 victory on Vault over the Bruins. Tabitha Yim (9.900) and Liz Tricase (9.900) shared the victory stand as four Cardinal athletes finished in the Top 5.
Tricase, who was ranked #1 throughout most of last season on Bars, looked impressive as she captured top individual honors with a mark of 9.925. Like the Vault, Stanford athletes took four of the top five spots, including a second place performance by freshman Carly Janiga.
Stanford posted its largest margin of victory in the four events with 49.225 points compared to UCLA's 48.225 on Beam. Yim and Fee led the Stanford attack with first and second place finishes. Yim tallied a score of 9.950 while Fee finished with a 9.900 mark. Again, four Stanford gymnasts finished in the Top 5.
Janiga recorded her first collegiate victory as she tallied a mark of 9.925 on Floor Exercise. Sophomore Nicole Ourada finished third (9.900) and Yim was Stanford's third competitor in the top five with a mark of 9.875.
Stanford opens its 2007 home season on Friday (Jan. 19, 7:30 p.m.) against nationally-ranked Arizona State. The meet will be held at Burnham Pavilion.
