The 2007 Stanford men's gymnastics team opened their season with a 205.10 to 196.00 victory over California last night in Haas Pavilion. The Cardinal finished on top in four of the six events and junior David Sender captured the all around title with a 50.45.
Stanford turned in a strong performance on vault, capturing the top six spots, with David Sender earning the high score of 8.90. The Cardinal also placed multiple top finishers on two other events, the top three spots on pommel horse and the top two on rings. Senior Brice Rolston posted a 8.95 to claim first on the pommel horse, while senior Peter Derman earned Stanford's second highest score of the day with a 9.20 to take the top spot on rings. With a first place finish on the horizontal bar, senior Dylan Carney received the high score of the night with a 9.30.
Cal took the top spots on the floor exercise and parallel bars, with Cardinal's Dylan Carney (8.90) and Chris Harper (8.90) taking third in the two events, respectively.
Stanford is back in action on Saturday, January 27 for the Stanford Open. The Cardinal took home the team title last season in this tournament and will again host Nebraska, California, and Washington at Burnham Pavilion.
