Cardinal Continues Success at UW Invitational

Stanford, Calif. - The Cardinal track and field team completed another successful day of competition during the second and final day of the University of Washington Invitational at Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle, Wash. Seven Cardinal athletes recorded NCAA provisional marks, while Josh Hustedt and Arianna Lambie posted NCAA automatic qualifying marks.

On the men's side, the Cardinal distance runners enjoyed the most success, with four athletes recording provisional marks in the 3000 meters. Five-time All-American Russell Brown posted the top time for Stanford, with an 8:01.07 mark. Teammate Garrett Heath was close behind with a personal best mark of 8:01.96, and Jacob Gomez posted a time of 8:03.48. Sophomore Hakon DeVries rounded out the NCAA provisional finishes for the Cardinal, recording an 8:03.76 mark.

In the men's pole vault, Graeme Hoste also recorded an NCAA provisional mark with a 17-5 (5.31m) mark.

Hustedt highlighted the day for the Cardinal men, with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the heptathlon. The Cardinal junior took first place in the field with 5,677 points, a new personal best.

The women's distance runners also posted impressive performances, with Lambie recording a 9:00.60 NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 3000 meters. The time was a personal best and ranks second on Stanford's all-time best list. Teammate Teresa McWalters also performed well in the 3,000 meters, recording an NCAA provisional time of 9:27.12.

Alicia Follmar continued the Cardinal success, running a personal best 4:46.00 mile, and recording another NCAA provisional mark for Stanford. Lauren Stewart's 3, 780 points in the pentathlon rounded out the NCAA provisional marks for the Cardinal. The sophomore's 41-3 (12.57m) triple jump was good for first place in the field.

Both the men and women competed against UC Davis in a dual meet within the event. The Cardinal women dominated by a score of 75-40, while the Cardinal men won 62.5-49.5.

Stanford returns to action next weekend at the United Heritage Invitational in Boise, Idaho.
