Cardinal Cruises to 23-5 Win at UOP

Stanford remained unbeaten in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play today by pummeling UOP 23-5 at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton. The Cardinal, ranked third in the nation, improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in MPSF while the Tigers remained winless at 0-3 and 0-2 in the conference. Stanford was led today by Katie Hansen, who scored five goals as Stanford built a 9-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Cardinal scored five more goals in the second period to extend their lead to 14-3 at half. Stanford kept on the attack in the third quarter as they added six more goals and ran their lead to 20-3.

Eleven players scored for the Cardinal, including Hansen's five goals and three apiece by Jessica Steffens and Christina Hewko. Scoring two goals for Stanford were Jacquelyn Gauthier, Kelly Eaton, Heather West and Alex Koran while Kelsey Holshouser, Kira Hillman, Lauren Silver and Kelly Donahue each added a goal.

Kate Heddleston had an outstanding day as the Cardinal freshman had 11 saves.

Stanford returns to action Feb. 17 with a home game against USC.
