Box Score

Moraga, Calif. - No. 16 ranked Stanford women's lacrosse traveled to Saint Mary's on Friday, coming away with a 22-6 victory, its first of the season. The Cardinal improve to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the MPSF this year. Coming off of a 10-6 loss to Oregon to open the season last week, the Cardinal came out strong, outscoring the Gaels 14-2 in the first half thanks to an 11-minute, nine goal scoring run.

Freshman midfielder Lauren Schmidt continued her hot streak, leading the Cardinal with five goals. The five goals tie for second-most in a single game by Stanford player. Schmidt added one assist to bring her season points total to 10. Three of her five goals were free position scores.

The Cardinal started the scoring off just 1:20 into the game with an unassisted goal from Schmidt. Saint Mary's senior midfielder Jackie Spencer evened the score at one on a free position goal at 24:01, but that was the closest the Gaels would get as Stanford went on a 13-1 scoring run over the final 23 minutes of the half. The run featured three goals from senior midfielder Liz Piselli and the first career goals for freshmen midfielder Leigh Lucas and attacker Amanda Schwab.

Stanford entered the half with a commanding 14-2 lead after taking 19 shots and winning 14 of the 17 face-offs before the break. Junior goalkeeper Laura Shane made four saves on nine Saint Mary's shots in the first half, finishing with six total saves.

The Cardinal came out of the locker room with the same intensity, posting two goals in the first four minutes of the second half. Though the Gaels added another four goals, Stanford was in control, adding eight more goals after the break. Freshman attacker Dana Lindsay posted her first two goals of her collegiate career, while Schwab added her second and third.

Sophomore midfielder Maris Perlman recorded six draw controls to lead the Cardinal, while Piselli and freshman midfielder Sarah Blahnik were almost automatic on face-offs, going 16-for-21. Along with her three goals, Schwab posted the first two assists of her college career to score five points on the day.

Six Stanford players scored multiple goals against the Gaels, with Schmidt leading the way with five. Piselli and Schwab added three scores apiece, while Blahnik, Lindsay and junior attacker Daphne Patterson contributed two goals each. Lucas, Perlman, Claire Hubbard, Bess Siegfried and Megan McClain tallied one score each for the Cardinal. Five freshmen notched the first goals of their Stanford careers and eight players tallied assists on Friday.

The Cardinal returns to action Sunday, when they kick off their home schedule against No. 2 Duke. The home opener is set to begin at 2:00 PM at Maloney Field.
