Long Beach State beat the Stanford Cardinal in a three game match tonight with the scores of 30-18, 30-23, 30-25. Stanford's still striving for their first win while the 49ers improve to 5-4 for the season.
The Cardinal hit .091 for the match, tallied 28 digs and 36 assists. Evan Romero led the squad with 14 kills and Kawika Shoji added 34 assists and seven digs for the night.
Stanford never got full control of the first game as Long Beach State led in points the entire game. A -.143 hitting percentage in game one hindered the Cardinal as the 49ers took advantage by getting a 14-6 lead and eventually winning 30-18.
Stanford couldn't hold Long Beach State at the net in game two as the 49ers hit .533. Stanford's offense had a better showing in the second game but couldn't stop their opponent's 7 point run which left the Cardinal with a final score of 30-23.
In game three, Stanford was able to hold off two match points for the 49ers but weren't able to take a game from Long Beach. The final score of game three was 30-25.
Paul Lotman led the 49ers with a match-high 19 kills, hitting .486 for the match. The 49ers hit .407 on the evening.
Stanford will travel to San Diego to play UCSD tomorrow night at 7:00 PM.
