Stanford Track and Field Finished First Day Of MPSF Championships

Stanford track and field completed the first day of the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships in Seattle, Wash. The women's team ended the day in second place with 48 points, trailing first place Arizona State 5 points. The men's team finished tied for third place with Long Beach State (23 points), behind first place Washington (42) and second place Oregon (30).

The day was highlighted by Arianna Lambie, who broke the meet record in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:50.65 and earned 10 team points. Teammate Kate Niehaus followed behind in fourth place with a time of 16:56.73 to earn five points.

Lauren Stewart had an eventful day, as she participated in five different pentathlon events. She placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82, fourth in the high jump as she cleared 1.66 meters, seventh in the shot put with a mark of 11.13 meters, fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.41 meters and fifth in the 800-meter run, recording a time of 2:25.97. Stewart ended the day with a fith place pentathlon finish, recording a total of 3,776 points and earning five team points.

The women continued their successful day in the long jump event. Sarah Matthew recorded a jump of 6.26 meters to claim first place and 10 team points. Erica McLain finished in second place with a mark of 6.21 and earned eight points for her team.

On the men's side, Josh Hustedt qualified for the final round of the 60 meter hurdles with a third palce finish in his heat and a personal best time of 8.11. Also qualifying for the finals was Daniel Beal, who ran 6.97 in the 60-meter dash.

The long jump gave the Cardinal men their post team points of the day, as they earned 11 points between three athletes. Adrian Munabi recorded a fourth place finish with a mark of 7.20 meters to earn five points. Josh Hustedt finished fifth with a jump of 7.03 meters, earning four points. Richard Sherman earned 2 points for the team with a seventh place finish and a mark of 6.91 meters.

The final day of action continues tomorrow in Seattle, Wash. with the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles beginning at 10:00am.
