Waikoloa, Hi. - Fueled by junior Rob Grube's final round of 64, the Stanford men's golf team captured the 17th annual UH-Hilo Invitational title after erasing a four-stroke deficit to catch up to Thursday's leader. The Cardinal's three-day total of 37-under-par 803 tied with Oklahoma State (803), however Stanford won the tiebreaker after posting the lower score among the two school's No. 5 players.
In third place was Arizona State (816) followed by Georgia Tech (818), USC (819), Washington (821), Oregon State and TCU (822), UC Davis (829), Oregon and Texas Tech (833), Colorado (844), Hawaii Manoa (847), Pacific and Kansas (854), Santa Clara (856), Oklahoma (857) and Hawaii Hilo (891).
Today's win marks the fourth tournament title this season for the Cardinal. Stanford has now finished in the top five in all six tourneys this season.
Cardinal Rob Grube led the Cardinal tying for second individually with an 11-under-par 199 (69-66-64) along with Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro. Oklahoma State's Jonathan Moore took home top individual honors with a 15 under-par 195.
Freshman Jospeh Bramlett turned in a 66 in the final round to finish fourth overall with a three-day total of 10-under-par 200 (64-70-66). Teammates Matt Savage (68-67-67) and Zack Miller (67-66-69) tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard posting a score of eight-under-par 202. Sophomore Dodge Kemmer tied for 52nd with a two-over-par 212 (72-71-69) for the tournament.
Stanford is back in action at the Puerto Rico Classic, February 25-27, in River Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
