After the final day of competition at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships, Stanford track and field once again showed why they are one of the top teams in the nation. Erica McLain became the second national champion at this competition for the Cardinal winning the triple jump, while Josh Hustedt broke the school record in the heptathlon.

For the women, Erica McLain earned her National Title with a victory in the triple jump as she broke the school record with a distance of 13.91 meters, earning ten team points. McLain held the old record as well, with a mark of 13.90 meters that she set back in 2005.

"Overall, it is a bittersweet victory for me," said McLain. "Obviously I got the finish that I wanted, but I was hoping for a little better mark. My coach and I thought that I could have gotten a little better even though it was an indoor personal record for me by a centimeter. But, I won so you can never be disappointed with a first place finish."

Arianna Lambie took the bronze in the 3000-meter run as she ran a 9:04.81 to earn six team points.

On the men's side, Josh Hustedt set the school record in the heptathlon as he finished fourth overall with 5,837 points. On the way to his record setting finish, Hustedt also tied the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with his time of 8.03.

Russell Brown finished as the runner-up in the mile finals as he posted a time of 4:00.84. Garrett Heath was right behind in fourth place with his time of 4:00.99.

Overall, the Cardinal came away from the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships with two National Champions, three new school records and a tremendous amount of momentum heading into the outdoor season. The team returns to action on Wednesday, March 28 for the Cal Multis in Berkeley, CA.
