Stanford Track And Field Successful At Quad Meet

Stanford track and field hosted the Quad Meet to kick off their 2007 outdoor season. On the women's side, Stanford took first place with 69 points, followed by UC Davis with 58 points, next was Fresno St. with 54 points and USF finished with 12 points. For the men, UC Davis took home the top spot earning 74 points, close behind them was Fresno St. with 68 points, Stanford finished third with 51 points, while USF placed fourth with three points.

For the Cardinal women, the 800 meter run proved to be their best event once again. Alicia Follmar took first in a time of 2:09.84, while teammates Claire Cormier (2:11.07) and Kaylin Pennington (2:11.29) finished second and third, respectively.

Stanford also shined in the high jump, sweeping the top three spots for a second time. Lindsey Gannaway recorded the top jump of the day at 1.75 meters, followed by Tessa Flippin posting 1.66 meters and Kara Bennett leaping 1.60 meters.

The women were able to take the top spot in six more events, earning a total of eight first place finishes. The list includes Jakki Bailey in the 100 meter dash posting a time of 11.50, Lauren Centrowitz recording a 4:35.60 in the 1500 meter run, Nora Miller running the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.07, Michaela Wallerstedt recording a mark of 13.97 meters in the shot put, Katy Ellsbury throwing the hammer 51.41 meters and the 4x400 meter relay team posting a time of 3:43.18.

On the men's side, the discus yielded the most points for the team as the Cardinal swept the top three spots. Michael Robertson took first place in the event with a throw of 56.53 meters, while Daniel Shcaerer (54.73 meters) earned second, followed by Mark Shughart (47.98 meters) in third.

The Cardinal also performed well in 110 meter hurdles, as Richard Sherman earned a second place finish in a time of 14.55, while Joseph Jackson took third, posting a 14.70.

The men had three more top finishers, including Brett Gotcher in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:52.03, Graeme Hoste on the pole vault with a mark of 5.05 meters and Feranmi Okanlami in the triple jump with a leap of 15.07 meters.

The team returns to action Friday-Saturday, March 9-10 for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
