Cardinal senior Christina Hewko has won MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week for April 9- April 15, Associate Director Kaia Hedlund announced today.
Hewko, out of Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, California, scored seven goals in the two Stanford victories last weekend, one of the wins coming against No. 2 ranked UCLA. The other victory was against the No. 12 ranked UCSB Gauchos.
Hewko scored three goals against No. 2 UCLA on Saturday afternoon in the 7-6 Stanford victory in overtime. Hewko followed up that performance with a four goal effort against the Gauchos last Sunday. This seven goal outburst gave Hewko 30 on the season. Hewko is the third Stanford player to win the player of the week award. Earlier in the season fellow seniors Katie Hansen and Meridith McColl also won the award.
The Cardinal (21-1) has now pushed their winning streak out to 19 games. They return to the pool this Friday against California in Berkeley, CA; this match will begin at 7:00. The Cardinal return home for its last 2007 home game at the Avery Aquatics Center when they take on San Jose State this Saturday April 21st at 1:00 PM
