Stanford women's water polo had eight players named to the All-MPSF teams as announced by Al Beaird, the Executive Director of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The teams were selected by the Federations head coaches for their outstanding play in the 2007 Federation conference season. MPSF Player, Newcomer and Coach of the Year will be announced after the 2007 MPSF Women's Water Polo Championship Tournament at Arizona State, April 26-29.
Katie Hansen scored 50 goals in her senior campaign and was named to the 2007 All-MPSF First team. Also on the First-Team is senior Christina Hewko, who scored 35 goals on the year, including three in the win over No. 2 UCLA two weeks ago. Goalkeeper Meridith McColl also was named First-Team All- MPSF after leading the Cardinal to a 23-1 record and recording 134 saves on the season.
Stanford placed one student-athlete on the All-MPSF Second Team in Senior Two-Meter Alison Gregorka. Gregorka led a tight defense all season long and chipped in 18 goals on the year.
Lauren Silver led the team with 54 goals on the season and was named as an Honorable Mention All-MPSF for the second season in a row. She also was on the MPSF All-Freshmen team last season when she scored 52 goals. Joining Silver on the Honorable Mention All-MPSF team was Stanford sophomore Jessica Steffens. Steffens scored 30 goals, doubling her total as a freshman when she scored 15.
Freshman Kelly Eaton and Kelly Donahue were able to make the 2007 MPSF All-Freshman team. Eaton, from Menlo Park, scored 16 goals on the season and Donahue chipped in 15 of her own.
No. 1 Stanford starts the postseason on Friday at the MPSF Championships when they play the winner of the UC Irvine/Arizona State matchup. This game will take place at 12:40 PM.
