Davis, Calif. - The Stanford University women's lacrosse team got four goals from junior attack Daphne Patterson in a 17-4 win over UC Davis in MPSF play at Aggie Stadium Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinal spoiled the Aggies' Senior Day, scoring 10 first-half goals to improve to 3-2 in conference play and 6-7 overall.
Sophomore midfield Jamie Nesbitt opened the scoring for the Cardinal just 41 seconds into the game. From there, Stanford put together a 6-0 scoring run that saw two goals from freshman midfield Lauren Schmidt and Patterson's first score of the game.
Sophomore attack Patrice Clark finally broke through for the Aggies at the 15:39 mark on an unassisted goal. However, the Cardinal closed out the half with another run, putting away four consecutive goals including Patterson's second of the day and a goal and an assist from senior midfield Liz Piselli. The run gave Stanford a comfortable 10-1 halftime advantage.
The Cardinal continued its scoring streak, with Patterson finding the back of the net twice in the first six minutes of the second half to give Stanford a 12-1 lead. Patterson used a steal from defender Melissa Vogelsong's to put away her third goal of the game 1:45 into the second frame before collecting a rebound and putback at the 5:17 mark.
The Aggies never approached closer than 10 goals, as the Cardinal posted two scores for each Davis goal of the second half. Aggie junior midfield Katie McGovern, freshman attack Olivia Jarem and senior midfield Megan O'Connor each tallied a goal in the final 20 minutes.
In the second half, freshmen attacks Amy Stillwell, Claire Hubbard and Amanda Schwab each tallied a goal along with junior midfield Megan McClain and Schmidt. Stillwell's goal was the first of her Stanford career.
The four goals allowed was the lowest this season for the Cardinal, as junior goalkeeper Laura Shane posted eight saves on 12 shots on goal for the win. Stanford took 28 shots on Davis' Hilary Harkins who made five saves in the loss.
Stanford had 11 different goal scorers in the game, with four scoring multiple goals. Along with Patterson's four scores, Schmidt, McClain and Nesbitt added two goals apiece for the Cardinal. Piselli, Schwab, Stillwell, Hubbard, Fries, Lindsay and Blahnik each tallied a goal against the Aggies. Eight players added one assist apiece for the Cardinal.
The Cardinal returns to action for its final regular season game of the year on Sunday. Boston University plays host to Stanford for a 9:00 a.m. (PDT) start on April 29 at Nickerson Fiel
