Burdette and Yelsey Advance To Pac-10 Title Match

STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford's top doubles team of Lindsay Burdette and Anne Yelsey advanced to the championship match with a 9-8 (10-8) victory on Saturday afternoon at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif.

Burdette and Yelsey entered this weekend ranked No. 21 nationally with a 15-5 overall record and 12-3 dual match mark. The duo cruised to a pair of easy wins yesterday and edged California's Nina Henkel and Stephanie Kusano this afternoon by a 9-8 (10-8) margin.

Sunday's title match will pit Burdette and Yelsey against UCLA's Yasmin Schnack and Riza Zalameda at 12:30 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the two squads this year. Schnack and Zalameda, ranked No. 26, downed USC's Judy DeVera and Amanda Fink 8-5 in the other semifinal.

Tomorrow's match represents an opportunity for Yelsey to claim her third consecutive Pac-10 doubles title after she earned the hardware each of the last two years with Alice Barnes.

In singles action, all three Cardinal participants suffered losses. In the championship semifinals, Celia Durkin and Theresa Logar were defeated while Lejla Hodzic's solid tourney run ended in the invitational draw.

Durkin was nipped by No. 4 Susie Babos of California 6-4, 6-4 while Logar was topped by USC's Lindsey Nelson 6-3, 6-3.

Hodzic, who matched a season-best with three consecutive victories to open the tournament, fell to USC's Julie Smekodub 7-5, 6-1.
