Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford junior second baseman Adam Sorgi earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career for his play during the week of April 24-30. Sorgi hit .550 (11-20) with a double, triple and seven RBI to go along with four runs scored. Sorgi also had a .700 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base mark during five games over the period. In addition, he fielded all 30 of his defensive chances successfully for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Sorgi had multiple-hit games in four of Stanford's five contests and hit safely in all five. He opened the week by going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI versus San Jose State (April 24) before going 1-for-3 with a double the next day against Fresno State (April 25). Sorgi then opened a three-game Pac-10 series against Oregon State (April 27) with a 3-for-4 contest, before following that performance up by going 2-for-5 with a triple and a season-high-tying three RBI in the middle game of the series (April 28) and 3-for-4 with two RBI in the series finale (April 29).
Sorgi is hitting .390 (39-100) with six doubles, a triple, 19 RBI and 18 runs scored following his 1-for-3 performance against Santa Clara in his most recent game on May 1 that extended his hit streak to eight.Sorgi becomes the second Stanford player to win the honor this season following the selection of Sean Ratliff on March 6 and the 61st in the history of Stanford Baseball.
Stanford will travel to Washington State (21-20, 4-11 Pac-10) for a three-game Pac-10 series this Saturday-Monday, May 5-7 (5:30 pm, 2 pm, 12 pm, PT) with Fox Sports Net televising the Saturday contest live. The Cardinal next returns to Sunken Diamond for a three-game conference set against Washington (Friday-Sunday, May 11-13, 6 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm, PT). CSTV will televise the opener of the Washington series live.
