Stanford, Calif. - Santa Clara (23-23) scored nine runs in the top of the first inning and then cruised to a 16-8 victory over Stanford (18-24) in a non-conference game at Sunken Diamond on Tuesday night. The Cardinal has dropped all three of its games against the Broncos this season and six of its last eight to Santa Clara overall. Nathan Faulkner (5-5, 2B, 2 RBI) had five hits to lead the Broncos' 17-hit attack, while Michael Taylor (2-4, 2B, HR, 4 RBI) homered and drove in four runs for the Cardinal.
Santa Clara starter Sean O'Neill (2-1) earned the victory despite giving up six runs on nine hits and one walk with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings.Stanford starter Austin Yount (2-1) took his first loss of the season as he was able to get only two outs in the top of the first, while allowing four runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.
Stanford resumes Pac-10 action with a three-game series at Washington State (21-20, 4-11 Pac-10) this Saturday-Monday, May 5-7 (5:30 pm, 2 pm, 12 pm, PT) with Saturday's game to be televised live by FOX Sports Net. The Cardinal will next return home to Sunken Diamond for a three-game set against Washington (Friday-Sunday, May 11-13, 6 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm, PT). CSTV will televise Friday night's opener live.
