After the first day of competition at the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships, presented by 76 Gasolines, the Stanford men are sitting in sixth place with 26 points, while the women head into the final day in fourth place with 31.33 points. Currently in first place on the men's side is Oregon with 47 points. Arizona State holds the lead for the women as they have a two-day total of 73 points.

For the men, Michael Robertson set a new school record in the discus as he finished as the runner-up to the Pac-10 title with his outstanding throw of 205-09 (62.71m). In the 1500 meter prelim run, Garrett Heath and Russell Brown posted the first and second fastest preliminary times of 3:49.74, and 3:50.41, respectively in the 1500 meter run to qualify for the finals. In the 100 meter dash, Wopamo Osaisai qualified in the second spot after recording a 10.55 in the prelims. Brown qualified for his second final on the first day as he finished second in the 800 meter run prelims with a time of 1:50.64. In the pole vault Graeme Hoste earned a fourth place finish with his season-best mark of 17-06 ½ (5.35m).

On the women's side it was Teresa McWalters winning the Pac-10 Championship in the 10,000 meter run as she posted time of 35:10.62. The long jump saw Erica McLain earn a second place finish as she posted a season best distance of 21-02 ½ (6.49m). In the 1500 meter prelim, Arianna Lambie (4:32.18), Alicia Follmar (4:37.60), and Lauren Centrowitz (4:32.25) finishing third, fourth, and seventh, respectively to qualify for the finals. Jakki Bailey qualified as the third place runner in the 100 meter dash prelims as she posted a time of 11.68. Ashley Freeman qualified for the finals in the 800 meter run prelims with her time of 2:10.93.

Action continues tomorrow with the men's javelin beginning at 10:00 a.m., while the running events are slated to start at 12:00 p.m. with the women's 4x100 relay.
