The NCAA West Regional concluded today in Eugene, Ore., with nine Stanford athletes earning automatic bids to the NCAA Championships being held on June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif. The remaining 6-8 slots in the approximate 26-28 person NCAA fields will be announced on Tuesday afternoon, May 29 by the NCAA championship committee. As for the team results, the Cardinal men earned a seventh place finish as they posted 43.50 points, while the women placed fourth with 60 total points.
For the men, Michael Garcia took fifth place in the 800 meter run to advance to the NCAA Championships with his time of 1:50.90.
In the 1500 meter run, Russell Brown earned a second place finish as he recorded a time of 3:44.39, advancing to the NCAA Championships. Teammate Garrett Heath was not far behind as he qualified for the NCAA Championships in third place with his time of 3:46.15.
The triple jump saw Feranmi Okanlami advance to the NCAA Championships in fifth place with his season best mark of 50-07 ¼ (15.42m). Richard Sherman took 12th place in the event with his distance 49-01 (14.96m).
Wopamo Osaisai earned a seventh place finish in the 100 meter dash as he posted a time of 10.56.
On the women's side it was Arianna Lambie qualifying for the NCAA Championships as she took the 1500 meter title in dominating fashion with her season best time of 4:14.05. Lauren Centrowitz finished in third place with a time of 4:21.52 to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Alicia Follmar earned a 12th place finish in a time of 4:30.87, and a chance of being selected to the NCAA Championships.
Erica McLain won the triple jump title to qualify for the NCAA Championships with her leap of 44-08 (13.61m). Lauren Stewart finished in ninth place with her mark of 41-01 ½ (12.53m).
Janice Davis qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash as she posted a time of 11.56. Jakki Bailey finished sixth in the event with a time of 11.60 and has a chance of being selected to the NCAA Championships by the committee on Tuesday.
Davis then earned a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.65, and she too has a chance of being selected by the committee.
Lindsey Allen qualified for the NCAA Championships in the steeplechase with a fifth place finish in a time of 10:14.46, moving into third on Stanford's All-Time Top Ten list. Katie Harrington took tenth in the event as she posted a time of 10:28.28, while Maddie O'Meara finished 17th with a time of 10:44.73.
Over the course of the two-day regional, 16 Stanford athletes have automatically qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships on the campus of Sacramento State, Wednesday-Saturday, June 6-9.
