Camden, N.J. - The Stanford men's rowing varsity eight boat clocked the third fastest time in the heats of the IRA National Championship conducted Thursday. Stanford finished in a time of 5:36.588, which was just behind Harvard (5:36.361) as both boats raced for the victory in the fourth and final heat of the Men's Varsity Eight event at the Cooper River. Washington's time of 5:35.951 in the first of four heats was the fastest crew of the day.

Stanford's performance earned the Cardinal a spot in Lane 5 in Friday's first semifinal (12 pm, ET).

"Our men raced with attitude and personality today," said Stanford head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "They each gave a great deal of themselves to each other, thus uniting our team effort to an extraordinary level. We are anticipating a great race on Friday."
