Freshman Dana Lindsey scored four goals and Liz Piselli added three of her own in Stanford's 20-7 win over St. Mary's in Friday evening's quarterfinal match of the MPSF tournament. Lindsay scored her third goal right before the break, where Stanford was able to jump out to a 13-3 lead. In the even scoring attack, Daphne Patterson, Megan McClain, Lauren Schmidt and Bess Siegfried scored two goals each in the win.
The Gaels outshot the Cardinal by an 18-12 margin and committed just five turnovers in that frame. Stanford goalie Laura Shane posted 11 saves against six goals in 54:48 minutes before leaving the game for Melissa Vogelsong, who posted her first save of the year.
The second half was more evenly played as Stanford only had a three goal advantage at 7-4. With the win Stanford advances to play in the nightcap tomorrow evening against Oregon. That match will be the third one of the day and it will begin at 5:00 PM.
The Cardinal improve to 7-8 for the year. The Gaels drop to 3-13 overall.
