Cardinal Conclude First Day Of Pac-10 Multi Event Championships, Presented By 76 Gasolines

The first day of the Pac-10 Multi Event Championships, presented by 76 Gasolines began today at Cobb Track and Angell Field at Stanford. Josh Hustedt is the lone competitor for the Cardinal in the Decathlon, as he currently sits in eighth place with 3398 points. Kara Bennett (2692 points) and Lauren Stewart (2262 points) are in 12th and 14th places, respectively after the opening day.

Hustedt posted a first place finish in the long jump with his distance of 24-4 ½ (7.43m), earning 918 points. He also grabbed the second place in the high jump with a height of 6-8 ¼ (2.04m) earn 840 points. However, Hustedt committed a costly "Foul" in the shot put, leaving him with no points in the event and a lot of ground to make up on the second day. After the first day of action, Jake Arnold of Arizona is in first place with 4035 points.

Bennett's best finish of the day occurred when she tied for this place in the high jump with her leap of 5-07 ¾ (1.72m) to earn 879 points. Stewart performed well on the day, but was hurt by a costly "No Height" in the high jump that set her back in the point race. Heading into the second day, Diana Pickler of Washington State holds the top spot with her score of 3586 points.

The Decathlon competitors return to action tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. for the 110-meter hurdles, while the Heptathlon is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start time with the long jump.
