FOOTBALL POST-GAME QUOTES
Oregon 55, at Stanford 31 (Stanford, CA - Stanford Stadium)
September 22, 2007
STANFORD
HEAD COACH JIM HARBAUGH
On The Effort
"I thought our team fought very hard. I probably haven't seen a better second quarter in my entire life. I thought our offense made a lot of plays and created a lot of opportunities for our team. We just need to come out and play better in the second half of games and execute better, and we'll continue to improve.
On The Second Half
"We just didn't execute in the second half, and we just didn't perform. The second half we played hard, and we will continue to try to improve."
RUNNING BACK ANTHONY KIMBLE
On The Second Half
"We need to find a way to finish games. They are a real good team, and they came out strong in the second half, but we just need to find a way to finish out these games. We just came out, and we didn't get the job done. They came out and they had speed, and they have a lot of good players over there."
On The Fourth And Inches Play In The Third Quarter
"We need to find a way to convert plays like that one. We had a chance to make a play, and we weren't able to find a way to make the play."
On The Second Quarter
"I really like what we were able to do in the second quarter. We came out swinging in the second quarter, but they were able to counterpunch and come out strong in the second half."
On His Thoughts Moving Forward
"This game shows what we are capable of. We need to come out and do that in the second half, which is something we will work on from here on out."
QUARTERBACK T.C. OSTRANDER
On Facing Oregon
"We came out and played against a very good team and showed what we can do. I'm not doubting our effort. I thought we played really hard but great teams make plays in the end, and we were not able to do that. We need to execute better and learn to make plays in certain situations."
On The Second Half
"I really don't have much of a way to explain it. We just need to develop that killer instinct. I think we are one of the best-conditioned teams in the country, and we just need to learn how to execute better in the end of the game."
OREGON
HEAD COACH MIKE BELLOTTI
On The Difference Between The Halves
"They [the halves] were a little bit the same actually. The first and the third quarter were really the same. I liked the third quarter a lot better actually because we shut them out. We sort of had a gut check at half, we talked a lot about character and not about pointing fingers. We talked about making sure we got better at what we did. We turned the ball over way too much. Give Stanford credit. They threw the ball well, they ran the ball well, and we didn't play very good defense sometimes. In the second half I thought we played great defense. We played awesome, we played inspired, and I think when we were behind, that was a good thing for this team. We've done it once but that was a little bit more scary. When it's on the road, when it's in the Pac-10 it's different."
On Missed Opportunities
"We didn't always convert the way we needed too. I was disappointed obviously in the fourth quarter, we should've got seven to 10 more points on the board but overall we were pretty pleased with the way we came back, the way we battled. Each side of the ball fed off each other. The defense stopped them and the offense got it going, and the defense loved the fact that the offense scored points, and again I loved all of that."
On Oregon's Special Teams
"I'm not happy about the turnovers, I'm not happy about the way we played on special teams. We did have some big plays, but we also had some big plays go against us. We kicked a lot, and that's a fact of life when you score a lot of points. We just have to get better, keep our guys fresh."
On The Team's 4-0 Start
"Overall, I'm not about a 4-0 start. I just think there are some things that we need to get better at."
QUARTERBACK DENNIS DIXON
On Wide Receiver Cameron Colvin
"When somebody goes down like Brian [Paysinger in practice on Thursday], he was an excellent receiver, somebody has to step up and Cameron did that today."
On Oregon's Need To Score
"As an offense you always want to score, but sometimes it's not like that. [We had] a lot of turnovers today, and it's something that hurt us last year and everyone has that moment in their mind and says `hey we can't have this happen again.' And in the second half, we did our best."
On The Comeback
"It just shows the character of our team."
On The Win
"[The win] feels great. It's a Pac-10 opponent. We can only go up, and we've got to continue to do this."
