Chun Stands In Fourth Through First Round At NCAA Preview

First Round Results

STANFORD, Calif.- Junior Mari Chun recorded a four-under-par 69 during the opening round of play at the Margaret Branch NCAA Preview on Monday afternoon in Albuquerque, N.M., good enough for fourth overall on the leaderboard.

Stanford stands in 13th place overall, registering a nine-over-par 301 on the first day of competition. Duke leads the field with a five-under-par 287, followed by UCLA in second at 291, USC in third at 292 and Arizona State and Vanderbilt tied for fourth at 295.

Chun is looking for her first top-10 finish of the year, after placing 20th in the Cardinal's opening tournament two weeks ago.

Sophomore Catherina Wang carded a 2-under-par 71 and is part of a five-way tie for ninth overall.

Freshmen Piper Miller and Rebecca Durham finished at 7 and 8-over par, respectively. Miller fired an 80 on the first day and is tied for 80th while Durham shot an 81 and is tied for 82nd.

Junior Ki-Shui Liao rounded out the scoring for Stanford with a nine-over-par 82, coming in 85th.

Pepperdine's Taylore Karle has the individual lead after carding a 6-under 67. She shot 32 on the back nine with four birdies and five pars. Oklahoma State's Pernilla Lindberg and USC's Dewi Claire Schreefel are a shot back at 68.

Second round action gets underway Tuesday with tee times starting at 8 a.m. locally.
