STANFORD, Calif.- Julie Barton's goal in fourth minute of overtime lifted No. 13 Louisville to a 2-1 win over Stanford on Friday afternoon in Lexington, Ky.

Louisville improves to 12-5 with the win while Stanford falls to 7-5. The Cardinal has now lost three straight games and five of six overall after an impressive 6-0 start.

Facing its third nationally-ranked opponent of the year, Stanford hung tight and played its first overtime game. Despite being outshot 12-3, the Cardinal was able to make some key defensive stops down the stretch before Barton put home the game-winner.

"While this loss was disappointing, I am proud of the way the team competedtoday," said head coach Lesley Irvine. "Our number one focus was to manage our own performance and play 70 minutes with intensity. We did that. It's hard to loose in overtime but being there against a team like Louisville hints at the talent this team has. We are excited moving forward from here."

Louisville grabbed a quick 1-0 lead at the 3:45 mark when Nicole Youman found the net following a penalty corner and assists from Lauren Schaefer and Casey Meizinger. The Cardinals also held a 12-6 edge in penalty corners.

In the 20th minute, Stanford knotted the match at 1-1 thanks to Midori Uehara's first career goal. Positioned on the right side of the circle, Uehara took a pass from Jess Zutz and fired it past Louisville keeper Marie -Claire Heller.

Bailey Richardson recorded two of Stanford's three shot attempts. Madison Bell made four saves in goal.

On Saturday, Stanford squares off against Georgetown (2-12, 0-4 Big East) in a neutral site match slated for 11 a.m. PST that will also be played in Lexington, Ky. Losers of six straight, the Hoyas have been outscored this year 59-26 by their opponents.
