Stanford made quick work of 16th ranked University of Michigan, 16-4 in the opening round of the Irvine Tourney. Stanford never looked back and as they scored seven first half to take a 7-1 lead going into halftime. The second half proved more of the same, as Stanford tallied nine second half goals and setup a second round match against San Jose State. Michigan leading scorer Shana Welch scored three goals to lead the Wolverines.
In a team effort, five Cardinal players scored two goals and another six tallied one goal. Lauren Silver continued her solid play and scored her 19th and 20 goals of the season. With the win Stanford faces San Jose State at 4:30 PM at Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, CA.
