Synchronized Swimming Sweeps Every Event At Three Day U.S. National Competition

April 30, 2007

Stanford synchronized swimming swept all three events for the third straight day, becoming the only collegiate team to achieve such a remarkable feat. The Cardinal only entered multiple swimmers in the solo event, therefore they were only able to earn 35 points and the silver medal, while the Santa Clara Aquamaids took the overall title with 48 points. Ohio State took the bronze with 23 points, as two collegiate teams finished in the top three.

In the solo free routine it was Sara Lowe earning the top spot as she dominated the field once again with her score of 47.834, bringing her total score to 95.418. Kenyon Smith of Santa Clara Aquamaids place second with a score of 47.084 (94.084 total), while Ohio State's Barbara Nesbitt placed third with a score of 46.500 (91.834 total).

Lowe and Courtenay Stewart captured the duet title as they recorded a score of 47.917 in the free routine, bringing their final score to 95.584. Santa Clara Aquamaids rounded out the top three with their second place team earning a 47.334 (93.918 total), and the third place finishers posting a score of 45.667 (89.741 total).

The Cardinal team put an exclamation point on the competition as they completed the overall sweep with Elizabeth Anne Markman, Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos, Lowe, Stewart, Melissa Knight, Poppy Carlig, Debbie Chen, and Taylor Durand capturing the team championship with their free routine score of 48.084 and final score of 95.668. Ohio State took second place with a score of 47.584 (94.501 total), while Santa Clara Aquamaids finished third with a 47.000 (93.334 total).
