No. 1 Stanford finished off another perfect weekend with a 13-6 victory over No. 14 Long Beach State. The win improved the Cardinal to 19-1 overall and 8-0 in MPSF play. Stanford led 8-1 at halftime for the second game in a row and never looked back in the win. Kelsey Holshouser was the high goal scorer for the Cardinal with three goals in the game. Lauren Silver also contributed three goals of her own.
Stanford jumped out with a 3-1 lead off a goal from driver Jessica Steffens with 2:32 in the first period and then later went up 6-1 on two quick goals from Holshouser and Silver with 6:30 left in the second period. After a Long Beach State goal from Dayna Wawrzynski, Stanford scored the final two goals of the half to give the Cardinal an 8-2 lead at the break.
For the second consecutive game, Stanford's second half was fairly evenly contested. Katie Heddleston relieved Meridith McColl and made two second half saves. Meridith McColl started the game and made seven saves in the victory. The Cardinal also received goals from Kira Hillman, Jacquelyn Gauthier, Katie Hansen, Alison Gregorka, Alex Koran and Kelly Eaton in the victory.
Stanford returns to the pool next Saturday, April 14th to take on No. 2 UCLA at the Avery Aquatics Center at 1:00 PM. That game will follow with a matchup with UCSB the next day at 1:00 PM as well.
